OK, here are some pics of materials I have used to repair holes in the cones of HIWATT Fanes and Fane Cresendos.
There are many different materials that will work and they all end up serving the same purposes.

Black Tissue paper (commonly used for 40th, 50th, 60th birthday party gift wrappings) the nice thing about this is that it looks pretty good when finished without the need for spray paint.

and a finished product. ( I know....I got into a pinch this weekend and I ran out of time. I will add "work in progress" pics later this week!)

the hole/tear was ~2" long

Yup. Keep in mind that the surround's function is simply to accommodate centered cone excursions. None of the frequencies are produced out at those edges. So, retaining proper flexibility and making sure the cone doesn't move unevenly is the key to a surround repair.

I will get some "step by step" pics as time permits. I promise!

I forgot to mention another ingredient: clear fingernail polish, as a finishing touch.

Hi, sorry to drag up such an old thread guys, but can I ask how relevant this process is today please?

I am only asking as I have a Crescendo with two tears in the cone and wondered if I could still use this guide to help repair it?

Many thanks.
