Celestion Speakers with DR103?

Post by danny.boy »

Hi,
I'm not really sure where to ask this question but has anyone ever tried the Celestion Gold speakers with a DR103?
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for speakers to get a good vintage sound without tracking down vintage Fane speakers?

Thanks,

Dan

Do some searches here on "Vintage Purples" "Weber" and "Eminence" -- this topic has come up a few times.

Also, Fane is said to be coming out with a proper re-issue, and the current cast frames Fanes sound pretty good to me.

Never tried a Gold (too rich for my blood). They apparently excel in the Vox realm. But, alnicos can compress too early for the true Hiwatt experience.

I won a Weber Ceramic Blue off ebay and that seems to play well with a Hiwatt head. Mine has a 75 watt capacity, which I'd recommend for just about any Hiwatt application.

Other than that, like mark said, peruse the threads for pointers and opinions.
