to a very large degree yes, I believe so.
I used to use lots of effects until Mark Huss really blew me away with a Les Paul straight into a DR103.
I haven't touched any of my pedals for over a year.............

ok , ive straightened up a bit , now then i used to play a marshall mk2 100watt from 74 with cascaded[linked inputs] for a couple years GREAT amp but still had to push it with a clean boostfor solo s ,usually and mostly a keeley ts9...BUT maybe its cause i never played a hiwatt and i am really in the first 2 weeks of this romance ,but honestly like the doc says , i been plugged into my board but havent really felt the need to hit the ts9 , , admittedly ,im using this amp for monster tone backing parts and admittedly im still looking for the right combination for solowork , though the amp at a full boil with the guit vol rolled off does put me in a whole new direction technique wise, but like i said its only been 2 weeks and the marshall is just sittin there with cold tubes ,i think in a nutshell a hiwatt can really expose your technique, but at the same time reward great playing with that just right magic tone that just keeps you psyched, well better late than never

Sometimes we forget that besides of having a good tone we are suposed to do something with it, to communicate.
The one who easily communicate with us and uses sounds to do so is musician.
