Hello!
Well, I'll start restoring my DR504 this weekend. First, the chassis needs some cleaning and surface rust removal... whats the best way to do it ? I was going with a non-soapy steel wool, with vaccuum to suck up dust... is there anything I should pay attention while doing this ?
Also, whats the best method/cleaner to clean up the tolex ? Smooth brush ? soft soap or only water ?
Next step, I have to replace a "bulging" filter cap....

Are you going to disassemble the amp or just clean up the spots you can reach? Other than vacuuming, I've never spent too much time beautifying a chassis.

I'm with Dave. blow the dust off, recap it, undue the mods and play it!

Unfortunately...here in the U.S.A., Carbon Tetrachloride (Olde-Tyme "Dry Cleaning Fluid") is a HUGE "No-No"... Bummer...because if it was still around/available...you'd simply find a vat/container large enough to contain the chassis...and DIP THE WHOLE KIT n KABOODLE into your Carbon Tet Solution, WITHOUT ANY Disassembly...let it sit for a short while (lightly brush where nec. w/a SOFT Animal-hair brush)...remove...and let dry. VOILA !!! LIKE NEW. Count Decibel Has Spoken
