Dr 103 amp shot and I dont know what Im looking at
Hello everyone. Im new here and have always been a fender guy. I have been intrigued over hiwatts for a couple years but havent found one that may be in my price range.
Here is a listing of a dr103 on ebay.
Im just going to post the link because Im sure the price will skyrocket and I want to learn
I obviously noticed the tranny has been changed and the cap cans are not original. The power side looks as though there is a lot of "slop" in the wiring and overall has a grungy appearance.
Something else I should notice?

It's mine.
I bought it a couple years ago, it had a marshall PT, MUCH uglier messy wiring (I'll have to see if can find the before pics), it was noisy...........basically a mess.
I put the Heyboer in it and went about setting it straight, without going to the extremes of removing the boards as I didn't fell it was worth the trouble considering it had a replacement PT. It was already missing two mustard caps on the preamp board, so I put new SOZO's in their place.
One of the EL34 sockets was really loose and rattled when playing loud, I replaced it with a NOS Mcmurdo base.
it is wired for 120v. mains now. It sounds good, just like it should.
It is what it is. It may not appreciate much, but it will not depreciate either.
I have a bunch of good stuff on ebay to pay for my latest acquisition, or else I would keep it.

Sweet Dr. If its yours I certainly have much more confidence in it, than some random guy making a mess of things. I will be bidding! I need to sell a guitar too
I really appreciate your input here as well as over at the other forum

I cranked it up last night. It works well, it just isn't a mint condition piece. If you have any other questions, or want any other pics, just let me know!
You are welcome. I am a Vintage HIWATT super freak!

For me as long as it doesnt fail, it can look as though its 38 years old. I just want a player.

You'd do well to snag that one, then. Few folks are as um, er, shall we say "meticulous" as the good Dr.Hiwatt when it comes to restorations.Hamtone wrote: For me as long as it doesnt fail, it can look as though its 38 years old. I just want a player.
And, don't worry - as a long-time "F amp" user myself, there's (Hy)light at the end of the tunnel
