Re: SA212 - what can you tell me about it?
Indeed your wisdom is correct, the speakers make a huge impact on the tone! I managed to acquire another 12a crescendo at 16 ohms so I took the other from my 2x12 cab (it was paired with a celestion) and now have the two crescendos in the SA212 - it now sounds just like what I would have expected! V...

Re: SE4122
Can anyone tell from the pics what year(ish) it would be?
One standout thing seems to be a screw slot central to the back panel, above the speaker jack.
Most later cabs seem to have a different spacing.

SE4122
So folks, this is what every DR103 needs! A nice, early SE4122 with original fane 122142 speakers. It was owned by an old blues player and has certainly seen some gigs. 3 of the 4 speakers are original, I believe one was replaced (with the same type) at a later date. The wiring was wrong to - the ca...

Re: SA212 - what can you tell me about it?
I figured as much... The amp is really middy, so just need to find something a little less so. I do have a crescendo 12a in a cab with a celestion G12T75 that I am considering swapping in... I used this cab with the DR103 before I got my 4x12 (I'll share that soon). I would prefer another fane inste...

Re: SA212 - what can you tell me about it?
Thanks Dave.
Nope, 74 DR103 (running at 50w) and a 77 SA212 - the SA has the mid 70s preamp and the DR has the early preamp layout.
Were there many differences between the two?

Re: SA212 - what can you tell me about it?
I have changed the ECC83 preamp valves to low noise TAD ones, as that's what's in my DR103. I picked up an early SE4122 just over a week ago with the original 50w 122142 fanes. Sounds great but there is still a big difference between the two. Think I need to find me some original fanes for the combo...

Re: SA212 - what can you tell me about it?
Ok - it most certainly is a 77 and a re-cover. I found the original listing on ebay. Turns out I had emailed the seller with an offer - they declined - then bought it a month or so later for half the price from another seller! Ha! I recently had it serviced by my amp tech. It has been fully re-cappe...

SA212 - what can you tell me about it?
Hi All, to compliment my 74 DR103 I have recently acquired an exceptionally clean SA212. So clean that I actually suspect it to have been re-covered. No serial number but the caps date to mid/late 76. I have switched the greenbacks to Weber FC12s - a far greater improvement than the GBs! So - what c...

Crescendo cone codes?
Hey all.
Im selling a Wem 2x12 with some 12a Crescendos in it on ebay and someones asked me what the code on the cones is.
They both read 15 and I havent been able to find any pics of cone codes for other 12a's.
Anybody know what the standard code would be if there is one?

Re: Maintenance
Hey,
I managed to pick up a 74 DR103 not too long ago and it also could do with some new feet.
What size should I be going for?
Is it the Adam Hall 4907?
Cheers,
Tom

Re: Fane Crescendo Bass??
Will do.
The pic I have shows these as having the paper dust cap.
I've heard a rumour that DG changed to these at a later point - would that just be a 12a with a paper cap (do they exist?) or maybe he swapped to the bass crescendos?

Fane Crescendo Bass??
Hi all, I've just managed to aquire a pair of these (pics to follow) along with some 12a's in some old PA cabs. Label for the bass says thus: Type - 12 Bass Coil Dia - 3" Flux Dens - 15,000 Power - 100w How useful are these in comparrison to the 12A's? I already have one 12A in a marshall 1936 ...

Re: New DR103 Day
Thanks guys! I am really happy with the one I landed with. Spent the morning cleaning it. Got to order some replacement tubes for it and some new caps. Even as is it sounds lovely, though a little poppy at times (as in, making pop noises). I do feel for poor Clayton - I sent him so many emails hopin...
