Re: Look WHO has a Hi-Tone now!

Nice cameo of a HI-TONE rig! Not a big surprise in my view given the quality & dedication to classic Hylight-era Hiwatt tone.

Oooh....sweet stack! 8)

More details and photographs of internal amp guts & speakers will help potential buyers assess their level interest, of course.

Re: What are the current speaker options for HI-TONE cabinets?

Oh, okay. I got confused because the '231 loaded HT4123, HT2123, HT1123 are not shown in the website list of cabinets here as of 01-Dec-18 https://hi-tone-amps.com/products/cabinets/ (I placed mouse cursor over 'PRODUCTS' drop down menu tab and left-clicked on 'CABINETS') The '231 loaded HT4123, HT2...

Re: What are the current speaker options for HI-TONE cabinets?

Cool. Thank you for the info. OK, I have more questions. Please, refresh my memory. The HI-TONE DR-F speaker was inspired by and similar to the Hylight era Hiwatt Fane speaker model #155161, which had only a brief production run (circa 1978?) and was the typical favorite at the annual Vintage Hiwatt...

What are the current speaker options for HI-TONE cabinets?

Hi Hi-tone Team, How many different flavors of awesome tone are on the menu these days for the treble-y (i.e. non-bass) cabs? '231 & '142 & '161 clones of the classic plum backed Fane speakers? At a glance, I was not able to determine this on the website: https://hi-tone-amps.com/ It's been ...

Re: Whats your favorite EL34 for hiwatt custom 50?

Yes, vintage unused Mullards are the best in terms of longevity and sound. XF2s are considered to be the pinnacle, but XF3s and XF4s are hardly any different other than being from later manufacture dates. Hiwatt amps were designed to be used with these tubes. Dave Reeves was employed by Mullard prio...

The Who - Live at Hull - 15 Feb 1970

On the 14th and 15th days of February 1970, The Who performed and recorded two Hiwatt-fueled live shows with the intention of releasing their first official live album. The performances were located at the University of Leeds Refectory building and the Hull City Hall building, respectively. The Who ...

Re: harry joyce vs Hiwatt

I've only played one Harry Joyce amp, a 100 watter. This one was way cleaner than Biacrown era Hiwatt with the OL circuit, but a little more aggressive than a 4-input 70s Hylight DR103. Harry Joyce built very few amps with his name on the face plate, and I'm certain that they were all the same. I on...

Re: worst album covers ever.

Big Black's Headache album's original cover had a gross autopsy photo of a suicide corpse. I'm talking about the Steve Albini 80s band Big Black not the big black guy rapper celebrity. Do you an image seach if you dare. Big Black was one of those bands that really went out of their way to be anti-co...

Re: Vintage HIWATT Convention 2012

I plan to attend again. Hey, it's worth the trip just to hear Professor Huss jam out at dimed volume. The HITONE gear really shined at the previous Convention...indistinguishable from equivalent Hiwatt amp & speakers. Being newer, HiTONE amps have less hum/noise compared to some vintage counterp...

Re: Fuse blew, now it hums - any advice?

I removed the two outer power tubes, and as soon as I power on, the loud hum is still there. So I put back the 2 outers and removed the middle two, and then when powering on, everything was silent so I thought all was well, but after I switch the standby on, it's still silent, ie, there's no signal...

Re: Help me in my crisis ?!! Arghhh....

What guitar(s) are you using? I can max out all of the volume knobs on an early 70s Hiwatt (and on the guitar) and the tone is still clean (louder than sin, too) with thin single coil passive pickups (some Strat pickups for example). Some of the hotter humbuckers will begin crunch with all knobs at ...
