A $3,500 Mint DR 103 with mods ???
I dont get it when people use the word *Mint for selling an amp
that is far from being Mint and with all kinds of mods on it !!
The only mod missing is a fan on the side !!!

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and suggest that amp is not "99% ORIGINAL" as claimed .
Caveat Emptor.

Re: A $3,500 Mint DR 103 with mods ???
I had several emails with the seller and his beliefs about the amp are far from reality. I will leave it at that.
the toggle switch on the front is not original, nor are the output jacks.
It was a fantastic amp before it was modded, now it is a player with no collector value.
Extra holes hurt the value, extra holes in the control panel kill the value.
This crap:
2.) This amp is also signed from the factory by a gentleman by the name of:
" M. Neylin " ..
WRONG
This should be in a comical ebay auction thread.

I'm assuming " M. Neylin " was the perpetrator of the butchery. Egotistical enough to add his initials as a prefix to the "type" field, I see . Why on earth scribble the Serial Number on a filter cap ? And, as for the "$800.00 ORIGINAL "MULLARD" POWER TUBES", I don't know what NOS might go for these days, but after being installed in a Hiwatt for 40 years (if truly original), their lifespan (and value) could be tenuous.Dr.HIWATT wrote: This crap:

Can we generously assume that he was ripped off by his "English" seller? Anyone who spells 'through' 'threw' twice, probably isn't the brightest tube on the chassis.
Re: A $3,500 Mint DR 103 with mods ???
LMFAObrightest tube on the chassis
You will forgive me- but that has to be my new favorite saying..........

Funny I was coming in here to paste this very auction. I dont have the experience like a lot of you guys, but I kept saying WTF, to myself. I showed another one to Dave a few weeks back that was a 73 that needed some tlc. The seller went out at 1499 it failed to sell and I emailed with him, and got him to 1k, then I lost my $$$ for that one.
Point is this guy needs to back off the pipe, $3500 pfffft Even know the 73 had a yellow extension cord and needed some help, it was far better than this toilet for 1/3 the money.

Maybe Im wrong but I emailed him this
I apologize if this will come off harsh but, you do realize that this amp is no where close to 99% factory. It is my impression that Im not the first one to tell you this so then I have to assume you are deliberately attempting to defraud other ebay members. I would be inclined that you reconsider the accuracy of your ad and understand that, the value of this amp is nowhere, where you would like it to be. im saying this as a vintage hiwatt fan and owner and you selling it for this money is good for me but bad for the community as a whole.
If the tubes are the originals and been used for 40 years they are junk. David never used that pilot light, those extra holes kill the value especially the switch in the front which is most definitely not factory. The wiring inside for these factory mods is most certainly not hiwatt.
Consider what you will, but the accuracy of this auction is suspect.

Re: A $3,500 Mint DR 103 with mods ???
What a tool!
He almost hosed someone the first auction that ended at $17xx.xx. That was $400-$500 more than it is worth and shows that naive ebayers believe everything they read.
I get a kick out of the "original Mullards". Ironic that several of the power tube sockets have non original mounting hardware, but the tubes are the originals.
Re: A $3,500 Mint DR 103 with mods ???
Not to sound like to much of a dink, why cant we report this as a fraudulent listing? Yest it is vintage but it is not original and he is price gouging. For some reason this really bothers me. If it were something small like some odds and ends were incorrect I would chalk it up to him being ignorant but the amount of mods to this poor amp, come on
