Partridge?
Who wants a transformer named after a silly bird that doesn't even have a good singing voice?

(the original) Hylight Electronics HIWATT DR504 S/N 520 has landed - safe and sound :) :D :) :D !

Buster, you were right - she looks SO much better with those shiny, new transformers ;) . Oh, and thanks for packing it full of used kitty litter. Not only did that assure no parts moved during transit, but the reuse was in keeping with our Green Initiative  .

On a serious note, it's really cool to handle one of these masterpieces. Pot codes date between week 05 and 33 of 1968. Ditto with the filter caps, which don't have any bulges or signs of oozing (note: 4 caps on top, none inside). Valves look to be a bit long in the tooth (BRIMAR pre's and xf4 power). Will have to run them through their paces to see if there's any giddyup left.

I'm in my happy place now :D .

It is probably a late '68.

very cool indeed!

Leave those Brimars in there unless they crap out. They are excellent valves!

Once you are in the presence of one of DR's own builds, you realize that the Harry Joyce hype is just that...........Hype.

Garbage you find on the internet about HJ turning HIWATT into the greatest amps ever, HJ this, HJ that. Yes, HJ was a good tech, but DR was the man!

Not a penny, no. But many Pounds!

I'll have better luck with Mikhailwatt's "...it's been around for years" thing. Because, you know, it has been. Just not around here ;) .

Looking for an empty black flight case now,

I get a kick out of little details like this (apologies for the blurry pic):

Who else would have taken the time to insulate those leads?

In the "Coincidence Department" (re: the recent Carlsbro Fane topic in the Vintage Fane Section), I found the sticker on the back to be interesting:

Ah, the stories this amp could tell...
