Post by Dr.Bre »

Hello to all Hiwatt fans !

Im new here and I want to say yo are all great ! Many great informations on the site !!

I want to show you my new old amp that I got few months ago. it's a Dr504 i think from 75'
Original mullard tubes in the preamp and a vintage pair of Valvo el34 i poweramp.

Im really in love with it and after this my seeking for the perfect amp is over :D

I also own a 74 vox ac30 wich is also a beautiful amplifire but not so versitle like the Hiwatt.

Here are some photos of my amp and i hope you can tell me a bit more about it, how is the electronics, the caps, is all original and so on... feel free to write :)

enjoy !

Very nice! Welcome to The Vintage HIWATT Forum!

I have one that must have a very close serial number to that one, based on the components. I an guessing in the 53xx area???

it looks almost all original. the 330k resistor in the center of the power board has been added and the standby switch is missing the nut.

you are committing a serious HIWATT offense by letting a marshall sit on a HIWATT.

Blasephemy!

just kidding of course.

Thnx Dr.Hiwatt !

yes it is a 53xxx serial i don't heave the serail nr photos but i remember it strarts with a 5...

why is the 330k resistor there ? I assume for bias or something ??

and yes i realize now the nut of the standby is different haha never would get it by my self.

what do you think about the caps, is it safe to play it now before i get new ones ??

i noticed the amp dropped a bit of volume last month or so, and i am heraing some noise sometimes... i don't want to blow the amp before the cap job :?

it should be safe to play in the meantime.
I would recap it before playing many shows, but you should be ok to play through it.

it must be for the bias considering the location of the 330K.
