Wanted: Hiwatt DR103 Hylight era
Hello Guys,
This is my first post and I am glad being a part of your community.
I am looking for a hylight era DR103 in very good condition and in reasonable price from a European country.
I have a few weeks looking on EU ebay sites and found only overpriced amps....
The only one is worth looking is that:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hiwatt-DR103- ... 2c6c725233
But, its a bit expensive, appearance-wise is a bit tortured and the yellow "Patridge" Decal of the OT is removed, although it seems original.
I also found a very old as it seems in an Italian store together with its Cab:
http://www.hendrixguitars.com/Am407.htm
http://www.hendrixguitars.com/Hxampli.htm
Too expensive.... does it worth it? No inside pictures!!!
If you find something guys or if you judge that the above are worth, let me know!
Kind Regards,
Ilias

I believe that one has been discussed during an earlier auction. Dr.Hiwatt will have some input, I'm sure.Iliaspap wrote:But, its a bit expensive, appearance-wise is a bit tortured and the yellow "Patridge" Decal of the OT is removed, although it seems original.
Expensive? Yes. Worth the price? Perhaps. It's too risky to act without seeing internal pictures. If original, that would be a very nice rig!Iliaspap wrote:Too expensive.... does it worth it? No inside pictures!!!

Re: Wanted: Hiwatt DR103 Hylight era
the amp on ebay has definitely been well used.
In my opinion it is about 400 GBP overpriced, but it is still a real HIWATT and superior to anything new that is commonly available in Europe.
There is no need to worry about "old transformers". They can be damaged from misuse, but they do not wear out.
The shop in Italy is asking a premium price for the halfstack. Perhaps they will send you high quality internal photos?
I would advise you to be patient and keep an eye out for a nice Hylight era DR103. Patience is the key to getting a great amp at a good price.

Thank you for your answers,
I send an e-mail yesterday to the Italian shop for internal photos and to reduce price because it is too much.
No answer yet.
Found a guy in Ireland with a perfect (as I can see) 76' DR but he is not willing to post it anywhere... only local pickup...
the serial number is in Mark's Registry also. But no post is deal breaker.... its pity.

@Dr. Hiwatt
The removed OT patridge decal on the ebay auction, is it something suspicious?
Indeed, patience is the key
If you find something, let me know thanks again!

if you find one and want my opinion of it, I'll be glad to look at photos.
be patient and hold out for a real one. you will be glad you did.
no worries about the decal. what is important is the code on the top. It identifies the manufacture date and part number.

A real one is a Hylight generally or 69-72 period only? I have read that the early ones are better? is that true?
Which years do you prefer?
What I have found until now is mostly 75-76 period. I am willing to wait until I find one in good condition and reasonable price.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Wanted: Hiwatt DR103 Hylight era
any hylight generally is good, but
for Gilmour style playing a 4 input is more desireable. 1971-1977
1975-1976 are great amps. if you find an unmolested one at a fair price jump on it!

Re: Wanted: Hiwatt DR103 Hylight era
Recently I found another one on ebay, all seems to be good and clean, the circuitry is stock.
My only concern is that I noticed an additional piece of insulationg material in the power transformer.
Do you think that there is something wrong with it? Did the try to repair something there?
