Fane Cresendos x4 boxed like new

Post by Gilmourian »

Hi hiwatt, this is my first post here, hope its a good one. I think I have a good opportunity but wanted to check with some of resident experts here before buying.

Fane Cresendos x4 NOS

122326
2"coil
flux density 20000
100w
8ohms

looks the same as these ones

Well I'm tone chasing a Gilmour setup so wanted to check that these are the correct speaker, I know Gilmour uses Cresendos but I not sure what spec he has.

From the info you have supplied, you're spot on with regards to these being the speakers Gilmour uses, except for one (tiny) detail: his are 15 Ohms.
Unfortunately there is one vital bit of info missing in your list: the Type. There are several Types of Crescendo: 'A', 'B/L', 'L/T' and then some.
Gilmour uses Type 'A'. On the black&white or red&white sticker it will say what Type they are.

But 4 Fane Crescendos NOS: are you kidding me?!? This is everyone's wet dream! This happens once in a lifetime.
If they are 'A's, don't worry about the 8 Ohms or 15 Ohms. Get them NOW!!!

thanks the reply, the seller says they are general purpose (which hopefully means A) but I will check. Will the ohms rating being different effect the tone given that I'm going to a gilmour setup?

[edit] label says type 12" 'A'

Congratulations. What a find! I'd give my left cojone...

Whatever you do, do not have them sent to you by mail or courier. Pick them up yourself.

And please, post some pictures.

just picked them up, two boxed unused and two from a cab, one of which has had the metal dust cap lightly dented a few times. Are there any good tips of getting the dents out?

Use either a suction cup or something sticky to try to pull the dents out. If you're really lucky, the domes will return to their original state. In all likelihood, there will be some perimeter creasing left behind.

The biggest thing is to make sure the domes don't have hairline cracks. Those can cause chirping at certain volumes & frequencies.

good luck!

do you think perimeter creasing would effect the sound quality much

Completely situational. Only way to know is to try them.

just put one crescendo into my Laney cub 12r to give it a try. Quite a hard fit but it is in now and its now sounding pretty damn great, definite upgrade on the stock rocket 50 and about four times heavier.
