DR201

Post by nightterrors »

My buddy has a 76' EL34 DR201. It's in great shape. He is looking to sell it to me. He said he bought it years back for $1800... how much are they going for nowadays?

Thanks!

Thanks man!

yeah, he wants around $1800-$2000 from what I gather. He is in no financial jam or anything and doesn't particularly want to sell... he just knows how much I want one.
He takes good care of his stuff, I have a 1975 Orange OR120 I bought from him and it's great.

external pics don't help much.
detailed internal pics are key to assessing value.

The tubes could make a significant difference on value also. Nice new Mullards (6-EL34's) would be worth a pretty penny. And some 201's came with 4-KT88's. NOS GEC's would be worth more than the 6 Mullards. Either way, a full set of vintage tubes could easily make a $600-$1000 difference over Groove Tubes  (I gotta go throw up now).

Yeah, the KT88 version is pretty hard to find. A DR201 is pretty hard to find in Canada, I know of two people with them, and they're both EL34 versions.
The tubes aren't original, neither are the caps (he did it recently, don't remember what he put in... i'll have to ask again, I know they were cheap)
I'm 100% okay with that, not looking for a collectors piece. I'm looking for a players DR201, I play in touring bands.

"Eagle eye" Dr.Hiwatt may spot something, but it looks unmolested to me. Nice score!

based on the quality of the images, I think it is worth at least $2000.00.
the only unoriginal components "I can see" are the screen resistors.
but the pics aren't very good nor do they capture all of the circuitry, so don't hold me too accountable.

Ended up picking one up for sale somewhere else. It is also a 76', EL34's and it was sold to me buy the only owner... he bought it in 1976 while he was on vacation in Germany. He sold it to me for $1700.
I'll post some pictures when I get the time!

It has brand new Mullards and was looked at recently, it is a fantastic sounding amp. I love it.

Great! yeah, I love mine. Played it a lot in the past few days. I'll take some detailed pictures tonight and post them for you guys.

I also have another question... is there a way to make the head 2 ohms? I have two 4 ohm cabs, I do have another head I usually run with the other cab, but if I can just run the Hiwatt with the 2 cabs that would be cool.
