Cross-talk on 2-input DR504?

I was playing bass with my 2-input DR504, plugged into the Normal channel and I happened to have the Bright channel turned up really high. There was a lot of background noise that went away as I turned it down. Out of curiosity, I turned Bright channel back up and turned the Normal channel all the way down. I could hear my bass in the Bright channel at a low level with all of the background noise again. So, does this cross-talk occur b/c of the signal mixing at the plates and/or lack of resistive mixer?
