DR112 questions

Post by Dave Gypsy »

I have a early 70s DR112 PA head that I use as was intended by design as a PA head and I want to expand it capabilities as they did by using slave amps.

I use it for Vocals and keyboards.

The sound is excellent and feedback not a problem and yes I crank it.

First questions; I assume the jack on front says "slave" means "slave out" as the line to connect to a slave amp is this true? or is an in/out wherein the amps can be chained?

Is there any original literature I can source posted anywhere on the DR112 or its cousins?

I would like to chain old tube pa amps to increase total output without stacking the preamps so that one amp is the master will i need to convert other amps to slaves and create an insertion point? If so will they require a driver tube and input volume?

The Hiwatt slave would be great or a Laney power simulator but those are almost non existent.

Who out there has information on the use and setup of these earlier tube driven PA systems?

In my amp collection I have a couple of 70s Hiwatts. The other is a DR504 They run quiet and are reliable and sound great.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

These have been posted elsewhere, but I'll drop them in for easy reference:

Yes, the Slave jack would be connected to the input of an external power amp. Best to avoid stacking preamps for your usage, as you mentioned.

Hiwatt power amps pop up from time to time. Some of them have been converted into (counterfeit) DR103 or DR201 guitar amps by they who shall remain nameless  . Other manufacturers made similar pre-amp-less "booster" amps back in the day. Sounds like you have a quest in store!
