Herringbone Grill Cloth (Paging Buster)

Post by Herec »

Does anybody know anyone who makes anything close to the Herringbone grillcloth that was on the early Hiwatt/Sound City cabs?

I think you can see it on PT's amp in the Rock n' Roll Circus video.

Just wondering about this again. Its either this or possibly the new pinstripe replica that is in the works.

I asked Buster, he didn't know. It is very likely that the material hasn't been made for decades.

that cab is a late 1960's. There are several pics of Pete Townshend with them circa late 1968-early/mid 1969.

there are some good shots of them in the 1969 Rolling Stones R&R Circus..............When the WHO stole the show!

I really like Petes sound back then and the Who overall . The cab to the left and the one below What era are those. Or are they from the same era with just some goofy fadding on the lower one grill cloth?

Bumping an old thread. Is there any way to contact the owner of this cab? Those early herringbone cabs are really rare, and I would love to have it fully documented.

Nudging this one again...this is the only example of an original Herringbone Hiwatt cab I've seen other than in old Who stage photos. Is there any way to get more details about the cab and the speakers? What was the model designation - SE4121, SE4122 or SE4123...or all of them? Did they ever come with 14000 gauss Fanes, or was the 17000 gauss model the only 50W type at this time (presumably '68 or early to mid '69)?
