Fane speaker trade

Hey Guys, This is my first post. I found my way here from the Plexi Palace.

I have a recently acquired a 122/231. It is 16 ohms.
I wanted to put it in my Fender Princeton Reverb II, but it is 8 ohms, but I don't want to risk damaging it or the speaker.
If I had another, I could put them in my 2x12, or I would like to possibly trade this for an 8 ohm. I could go with a 122/231 or a 122/142
Any body got anything to offer?

I have never seen #122231 or 122142 in anything but 15 (16) ohm.

You may be able to find a Sound City Fane or another old fane that is 8 ohms........Good Luck!

Like Doc said, never seen a HIWATT Fane in anything other than 15 ohms. FYI - it took me many, many months of scrounging to piece together a quad of '231s in good condition, so be prepared to wait a good while for another to pop up.

If you're interested, I might be willing to trade $$$ for your single 122231 (depending on condition). I also have a couple pairs of Celestions available to trade (2 x G12H30 Anniversary 16 ohm or 2 x G12T75 16 ohm).

No problem for the speaker, but I don't know how well Fenders tolerate impedance mismatches.

Without an impedance matcher, I would certainly not recommend it.

every other week or so there are 8 ohm Fanes on ebay. I know how hard G.A.S. hits, but I would try to be patient in this case.

I wouldn't put a fane in a Princeton anyways. Far better off putting Weber's speaker in there. My Princeton sounds so great with it.

I got a Weber ceramic Blue Pup in a trade that I put in my PR. It sounds pretty darn good!
It is quite a bit louder than the alnico cts that came in it.

I've got a couple of 8 ohm and even a 4 ohm Fane. Not Hiwatt labeled, though.

Here's a pair of 8 ohm lighter duty Fanes (model 12557) from 1977 that sound very good. The stamped frames have some rust on them, but nothing that's reached the important parts. I'd probably want to keep them together (that is, one doesn't do me much good).





Let me dig through the archives and let you know what else I might have. In the meantime, can you post a pic of your 122231?

A princeton reverb II isn't an ideal place to start for Gilmour. A Princeton without reverb will get you much closer.

Ideally, I would get a DR504. I looked for one after I sold a Marshall 1987x (ri) I could not find one at the time. An amp like that is a bit much for my apt. anyway, and I haven't gigged in quite some time. A princeton non-reverb would be nice, but I can't afford another amp right now.
I ended up with the PRII because I have this collection of '83 Fender Strats, and wanted to keep the '83 thing going. I guess I'm a little nuts with this stuff.

I also have a Mesa 2x12 cab, that I could put a pair of Fanes in, and hope someday to find the DR504, and use them together. I do play through the 2x12 occasionaly, and am planning to hold onto it. There are greenbacks in it now. I also have a pair of V30's that came in it.

So, my plan was to trick out the PRII with some NOS rca's and a sweet speaker. I was hoping the Fane would be the one.
I will have to keep my eye out for an 8 ohm, or another 16. Maybe I'll get the Weber FC12 to put in the PRII.

Ah, I see.
The FC12 may be a really good choice. You may want to ask Ted Weber what speaker he would use in the PRII, to get you where you need to be.

I have been tempted to try the FC12s in an empty 4x12. I have a quad of real deal Fane Crescendos but the rookie I bought them from did a Very Poor job packing them. They came from Germany and two were severely damaged, as in broken frame and cones ripped to hell. ........

I guess I will send them to Ted to see what he can do with them............

Put Weber's Princeton speaker in there, it's his most popular choice for PR's. Webers 10F150T , 50w version, light doping. Pure bliss in my PR and I play nothing but Gilmour. Clayton's right though, if your looking for a live sound the PR won't do it. But if your looking for a studio sound the PR is where it's at for Gilmour.
