New here and here is my old 504 and 4-12

Post by michael.e »

Hey all. Wanted to say hello post a couple of pic's of my amp.

'73 DR504 and '72 cab with cast Fanes. All original speakers and it sounds glorious! I use this rig in my old school punk band. We play original music in the vein of old school and '77. I get to run this amp with the master full up and the volumes up at least 1/2 way up.

Welcome, michael! Nice gear you've got there (we won't hold those Marshalls against you ;) ).

Whereabouts and how often do you play out?

Nice gear! Those '504s are fun "little" amps. 8)

Thanks guys! I am in Santa Cruz, CA. Before our dang singer left for San Diego, we gigged in our local area at the venues that still allow loud, ruckus music. I will drag this rig around till I am too old to do so. We have been in rehearsals as a trio and interveiwing potential singers for about 4 months. We are expecting to be back in the clubs this summer.

Thanks again!

I tried to tell you guys that they were pretty common in the early 1970's........and you thought I was nutty.(well, maybe for several reasons!)

You know, I am really stoked to have current stewardship of this 50 watter. It is as clean as I have ever seen an old amp and it sounds fantastic! The headroom is just perfect for this loud band. I get to let the amp breathe. That said, I would love to pick up a 100 watter as well. A music store in my general area has a 100 watt, newer issue/UK built 103 in White that they are asking 4K for  , perhaps I should go take a listen.

Hold out for the real thing. You'll be much happier and have cash left over. There have been a few Hylight Hiwatt DR103's up for sale lately.

Hi Michael,

Who makes your black guitar? I've never seen one quite like that.

Thanks! That is a newer issue Greco/Zemaitis. I am not much of a Strat player, so this takes care of that jones for me. I have Lace Chrome Domes in there now. They respond/sound much more articulate than the stock Dimarzios.

Very sexy set up! :D
That black 3 PU guitar is awesome. I've never seen one of those before.

I forgot to ask about the Sequis attenuator you have on top of your Marshall. Is it called a "Motherload"? How do you like it? How does it compare to a Hotplate?

The Motherload is a unit that is to be used in conjunction with this attenuator. The line out on the attenuator is very hot, which is what the Motherload was designed for. I just sold it. It was the most transparent unit that I have ever used and was very happy with it. The problem is that with my 50 watters, I can run them loud enough that an attenuator was not necessary. On my 504, I have the master dimed and the two volume controls at around 1/2. I still get more OD than I need/want on a couple of our songs. That is why I am looking for a good 100 watter.
