FWIW, the seller seems like a nice guy. I've sent him corrected info on his cab. We'll have to see if he updates the description.

Anybody surprised that nobody bought this?
Am I correct that front loaders aren't as popular nor are SE4123 versus SE4122?

You are correct in that the front loaded Speaker Enclosures aren't as popular as the rear loaders. I don't think there is much of a difference in popularity between the SE4122 and SE4123 cabs. In the early 1970's there were more SE4122's than SE4123's and once you get into the mid-late 1970's the opposite happened.

I think the Black grille cabs get less respect than the Salt and Pepper. Everyone has seen Townshend et al with the S&P cabs and the black ones don't have that recognition.

I have a black grilled cab that I can't imagine ever selling........it sounds really good!

The seller probably shot himself in the foot with this and his "recollection" of the date of purchase of the other cabs he had for sale. These had Sterling Import serial tags on them..........they didn't exist yet in 1982 as claimed in the auctions. That was a long time ago and it is easy to be off a couple of years. Lots of gigs, beers, etc. etc. since then.

Nothing surprises me anymore . IMHO, the opening bid was a bit high.

You're correct that front loaders don't carry the same mystique as rear loaders - even though they can sound great. The differences between the various Fane models get to be more a matter of personal preference. I wouldn't turn down a vintage Hiwatt Fane simply because it was a 122142 rather than a 122231 (or vice versa), for example. They're all rare treasures in my book.

I have the same cab I bought for $350 in the late 90's. Tolex in worse shape maybe but the fane 125155 still sound good... better than any celestions prolly for a HIWATT! Didn't know they were 50watt speakers? Thought they were 75? Is this formally noted somewhere or just hearsay? I got to hear 3 other hiwatt cabs w/ fane speakers. One w/ same exact ones(black grill yet rear mounted.. reminded me of my old marshall 1960av that I loathed when I pounded the axe(knocking against front baffle sound compared to brighter front ported/mounted cabs).

One thing I have to say is that they are not really heavy... compared to a mesa recto cab especially now thats heavy!

Anyways first hiwatt cab I tried w/ a head was an older one and made my 1960av sound thin, I also tried an audio bros that wasn't really much anyway compared to my front ported w/ 125155 speakers.

Thanks for posting your impressions of your 125155 front-loaded cab. I've got a front loader that came with 122142's. Have you ever had the opportunity to compare those two configurations?

Fane history is sketchy, at best. You could be right about a higher power handling capacity in the 125 series, but it's safer to assume 50 watts.

I have never seen a Hylight era 12" Fane rated at 75w. Only 22w. 50w. and 100w.

There is a commonly believed misperception that the SE4123 implied a 300 watt cab, thus 75 watt speakers, but that has been proven incorrect.

mhuss.com has several catalogues from '74, '78-'79 and they show the ratings for the Speaker Enclosures.
