Am I a Traitor?

Post by Mike B. »

...or have I just moved ahead as Entwistle did in early-mid 1971? I still have and love my Hiwatts, but I've now decided to use a 1973-vintage !blasphemy! Coliseum Bass stack as my main gig rig. I have two (that's right, 2) !blasphemy! 118 VH reflex horns loaded with the classic Cerwin-Vega 18-inch speaker. The amp is louder, a bit brighter (yep, brighter), and I get much more even string response along the fingerboard. I can see why Entwistle used these amps for so long (much longer than he used the Hiwatts, as a matter of fact). I actually own 3 Coliseum Bass heads and one Coliseum 880 head, and I will get a few more silver-cloth vintage !blasphemy! cabinets. I always loved !blasphemy! and must admit that along with the Acoustic 360/361 the Coliseum was one solid state head that could match or exceed the sound coming out of tube/valve amps.

Of course I'll use my Hiwatts from time to time, but for me the !blasphemy! has risen.

Can you see the real me? Can ya? Can ya?

AND, you're out of the Will !!!

Wasn't there some story about how disappointed P.T. was with the !blasphemy! backline they were delivered on a US Tour?

We actually used those folded horns for PA for awhile. Quirky cabs. Of course, that was also the band where we split a !blasphemy! Beta 4x12 cab (the kind with 2 speakers on a folded-type baffle at each end) for both guitar players. Worked. And it saved the road crew one more trip. Anyway, enjoy your !blasphemy!, son :P .

often use a 360 to drive a 2x15 for bass

a totally rocking amp - esp for solid state - love the eq on it too.

Traitor enough to have my post move to this thread here.... Which is cool. :D

It ain't too loud standing in front of it, but go 40-200 feet out front....WOW.

I'm not sure about P.T., but I know The Ox used Sunns for years.

If any of you guys come across vintage silver-grilled !blasphemy! bass cabs (with the "silver sun" logo, not the red sun one), please let me know. I'll give you a finder's fee! :D

Mike
Still Loving Hiwatts, but Oh Those Sunns....

PS And a vintage Acoustic 361 (a la JPJ) will follow eventually.

Since you're on the subject of !blasphemy! bass amps ... I'd like to inquire as to whether anyone's compared a 300T with a 200 or 400 series Hiwatt..? Howazabout a Mesa Boogie Bass 400?

I play all British guitar amps - Hiwatt and Laney.

My wife plays all American bass amps - Fender Bassman and (soon to be) !blasphemy! 200S.

Does this mean I'm in trouble for consorting with the enemy?

That all depends. What amp was she using when you proposed  ?

Guess we'll have to cut you some slack. No slack for MikeB, though!

Funny, but the Coliseum stack in markedly louder than the Hiwatt 200 with the Hiwatt 2X15 cabinet. No doubt it's the cabinet design of the !blasphemy! boxes coupled with the CV 18s. It's so loud, in fact, that I can cut my own slack!!

Once I take some pictures I will post them here in this thread.
