Hi all,
I'm selling my 1974 Hiwatt Dr103 100w head. It’s got a matched quad of Mullard EL34’s (all with the same date code - XF3 B4 F4, so they might even be the original valves) and Electro Harmonix pre-amp valves but I’ll also include the set of Mullard pre-amp valves that were in the amp when I got it.
It’s built like a tank (as everyone here will well know!) and sounds fantastic – beautiful cleans with plenty (and I mean plenty!) of headroom. It takes pedals really well, everything I’ve thrown at it sounds great. I traded my Marshall JMP for this with Harry (Marantz1300) and I’m sure he’ll vouch for how good it sounds.
It’s going in for a service next week and to have the Mains toggle switch replaced because it recently died (I’ve bought a Hiwatt NOS replacement switch which cost me £20). Other than that it’s all original with the exception of a couple of screws holding the back panel on that look newer than the others. Cosmetically it’s in really good condition for a 35 year old amp.
I’m selling because I’m gigging regularly now and I’m using my Mesa Subway Blues through a 2x12” which really suits the band and I can’t really justify having this sat unused in the spare room.
I've got a ton more pics if anyone wants any.
cheers,
Chris

Re: 1974 Hiwatt Dr103 for sale
Nice looking amp, Chris.
I'm judging from the mains plug, 240v setting and reference to £'s that you're on the east side of the pond? It might help to mention approximate shipping costs or if you're only considering a local sale.
BTW, the bass pot looks different than the others. Could that have been replaced somewhere along the line?
Dave

Hi Dave,
yeah, sorry forgot to add that I'm in the UK... with regards to the bass pot I think it must be the angle the photo was taken at because it's no different to the others. I'd prefer a local sale but would be prepared to ship the amp - I've sent a few amps to other parts of Europe in the past with no problems in the past, but I'd have to look into prices - a quick search suggests around £100 shipped to the US fully insured,
cheers,
Chris

I think its sold.I'll try and find out from Chris and post.I had it for six years befor our trade. Luckily I have a 73 DR112 PA 100, which helps sooth my fevered brow. they do turn up cheap on this side of the pond, once in a while. .

Hi all,
I'm sorry to say the amp has been sold but thanks for the interest... it was a killer amp as Harry (Marantz1300) will testify!
