Crescendo's anyone?

Post by Analog103 »

Number one:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Lautsprecher-Fane-Cr ... 286.c0.m14

Number two (and three):

http://cgi.ebay.de/FANE-LAUTSPRECHER-12 ... 286.c0.m14

The seller of the second link has another one for sale which is not listed.

At first I wasn't sure if these are the same speaker (the second one doesn't have "The Crescendo" written on it) but they have the same model number: 122326, the seller of the second speaker has also sent me the cone code: 10 003.

I wanted to buy these up but decided I don't really need them and I'm sure you guys are interested in these. They'll probably go for cheap as well. Go for it! Go, go, go!

My, oh my, oh my. Dr.Hiwatt, are you already on these?

Thanks for the heads-up stajerska!

those old things? LOL!
They are real!

I haven't had good luck shipping Crescendos from Germany. Broken Frames, destroyed cones.......crikey!

I have been beefing up security at HIWATT Valley, I am on a temporary spending freeze.

The logistics and timing are a challenge for me, too.

It'd be cool to see someone from this board snag 'em. I'll have to watch from the sidelines.

I'd love them. I'd totally be worried about them arriving safely, especially after the Dr's troubles.

As would I. You can tell from the pictures how lopsided those gigantic magnets look compared to the delicate cast frames. It'd take some really good packing to raise my comfort level :? .

I don't really understand the dilemma. Pack it solid. If there's little to no movement it should be fine. Anyone ever pack dishes or odd china pieces?

I have. But, the fellow who sold Dr.Hiwatt a quad of Crescendos most certainly had not  !

Since we're on the topic of packing speakers, here are some pics of a pair of Sound City Fanes as they arrived at my office:

Any wonder why some of us are gun-shy???

it seems simple, and could be if the shipper uses "Instapak" or a similar product and packs each speaker separately. Just like Eminence does with their new products.

Two speakers in a box is certainly doomed. The magnets are ridiculously massive and the aluminum frames are not sufficient to handle any impact with weight of the magnet behind it.

Good luck getting a seller to pack them adequately!

They have always shipped very expensive Celestions, JBL's, etc to the USA before with no problem......

I'm still the leading bidder of the second speaker and am still thinking about going further ..

You probably know by now that I'm not very happy with the current speaker setup I have, but I don't know if the Crescendo's will actually suit my playing. These seem like the perfect Gilmour speaker and although I love his music/sound I don't play that stlye that much or at all really. I'm more into strumming hard and oldschool rock 'n' roll music ... will these deliver?

Btw, Dr. HIWATT ... did you fix your Crescendos and gave them a try?

Ever listen the the "Nile Song" on the album More? Or any of the rock tunes of Obscured by Clouds? You might be surprised what Crescendo's can do!

Well guess what, I just bought the first one! I decided to give them a try and who knows maybe my speaker quest will finally be over ... err, well not really, as I'll have only 3. But I remember seeing them on ebay.de before so I'll just wait for one more.

Congratulations and best of luck in filling out the quad!

Had those been auctioned on THIS side of the pond, I would have given them more serious consideration.

I've also located a fourth one but the seller is hesitant to sell it ... we'll see. :P
