Talking as a newbie here, and of limited knowledge compared to most of the people here I would say this. I would want "Crescendo A", because I am a Gilmour fan but £150 is a lot to pay per speaker, and knowing the instrument market in the UK, it would probably take on the $250 price tag mentioned above, and find its way onto the UK market at the old £=$ exchange rate at £250, even though the company is british. Thats £1250 for a 4x12 if you need a cabinet too. This throws the whole thing into the boutique market and reduces potential customers. I say design with care, forget snobbery and hand build to exacting specs in Indonesia or China, Maybe Nik at Ceriatone has the contacts?? Give prototypes to people from this forum like Mr Huss and Mr Dr Hiwatt and punters like me, let us give back lots of feedback, post on YouTube etc and see what people think. Then sell us the speakers at a discount. I know this is the VHC forum and it is all about that here really, but I want to get as close as possible to the Gilmourish tone I have in my head, and if it is close enough for me with a £60 Tayden retro 55 or a Weber at £70 then I am not going to pay £250. So reduce the manufacturing costs. I might pay £20 to £40 premium per speaker but no more.
Thats a considered response from an "ordinary" buyer. Hope it makes some kind of logic. It's all down to getting the correct quality of product at the correct cost of goods, but I would want to sell 2000 at £100 rather than 200 at £250.

You get what you pay for. If you want a quality speaker that is as exact in spec and construction as the originals then don't expect the price to be low. If you want a cheap copy they're already out there. If you need an exact sound, either you need to buy the originals or be willing to spend a similar price for a reissue. If you want these speakers made don't expect them to be $79.99.

Hiwatt is high end. It was then and it is even now. An MG made DR103 runs about $3K+ and a 4x12 runs $2K. This is for speakers and amps that aren't even up to DR's original specs. So how could you expect Fane to make cheap reissues?

I personally expect a reissue of anything to be as close to the original as possible. Don't ask them to scrimp simply because you don't want to pay for it.

With a healthy amount of respect,I think you need to read my post again, I feel you are missing my point. Where in my post did I say anything about cheap knockoffs. Your $79.99 equates to £48 ,that would be cheap and nasty. A Weber is about $115 and i said I would pay $66(£40) over this for a Fane, thats $180. My points were made as an ordinary buyer, and all I am saying is that the product needs to be pitched at a price point that will generate reasonable volumes of sales, and.. perhaps attract the custom cabinet builders. A decent speaker might help change peoples preconceptions of "the evil organization that can not be mentioned"even. The way to do this is to produce to exacting standards in the Far east. I know that the only way to approach that authentic sound is to buy a 4x12 Wem a Dg504, and cut off David Gilmours fingers, for similar reasons I play my vinyl on 2 Linn Sondeks. However until the oppurtunity comes along I am quite happy to go 90% of the way there, and hopefully get closer with decent effects and practice. Bjorn from the Gilmourish website gets really really close with nothing like the investment in "Gilmour gear" that some people have.

At the risk of seeming luke-warm , I can see both sides on this. Certainly there's always a place for money is no object (Lynn Sondeks and vinyl indeed ), but in this market, that is a smaller and smaller demographic.

More and more folks are short on cash, and "the best" is not even an option for many.

Worse, kids today are growing up with the sound of MP3s in a set of ear buds as their 'ultimate reference.' A recent study showed that a majority of young people preferred that MP3 sound to a high end stereo! I'm afraid, although I hate it, that "good enough" is going to continue to trump "ne plus ultra" as today's young generation grows into mainstream buyers and consumers .

I hope this is not a continuing and irreversible trend.

And in the mean time, the emulators are getting really good.

Things are looking dim for Good Tone(tm).
