#6753 comes home Sunday

Post by Chris9723 »

THANKSGIVING INDEED. Just brokered a trade for 6753, Traded for a minty JCM900 1960B cab.
I think I made the better! The gracious previous owner wanted another Marshall to complete his 3rd stack.
it is a SE4123, rear load, rear port, It appears to have side handles like the late 70's cabs but should be a 74. Could be a newer addition.
*Supposed* to have all 4 Fanes intact..hope they are cast frames....Will see soon!!! Pics to follow for all whom are into that sorta stuff!!
Happy Turkey Day Y'all.

Well,
Here She is #6753....

http://s695.photobucket.com/albums/vv31 ... 9723/6753/

Outside is great shape, minimal wear. There are differnt handles, which im sure are aftermarket..perhaps some one can identify the origin. Wooden skids were taken off of the bottom and a quality set of casters installed.
The grill cloth is black...from the date of the serial Im sure it should have been s&p but it looks original...tight and straight, the logo has the original rivets in it.Even the piping shows no sign of being taken off.
Inside, someone has monkeyed around a bit. The speakers are all 122231's, tho the dates on the frames differ.
There are 3 06/76, and 1 50/75. Solder joints are messy and the original tubed wiring is gone....
Other than the mess of speaker dates, its identical in sound to my #6088 when a/b'd

Anyone care to hazzard a guess as to whether the cloth and handles are original?

As I said, I traded this for a 1960B Marshall cab.......Im happy with what Ive gotten in return!!
Cheers!

Black grille cabs were available back then. They simply spray painted the S & P cloth.

The badge is the correct Super fat font common in late 1974-early 1975.

the pics of the grille are too blurry to tell if the material is the S & P weave????? Does it look like it in person?

It sure looks alot like the weave of the material on my front load, not quite as thick of strands as the s&p and alot more weavey.

I would have to guess that the cloth has been replaced. as late as #8000 still used S & P cloth whether it was virgin or painted.

The handles look to me like those used by Sonic and Peavey. They're not original. See how the interior edges of the wood are unpainted?

If you've got a front loader, you know that the black grill has a sort of caning weave to it. That doesn't appear to be what your new one has.

I still think you got a heckuva deal!

Having several Marshall bottoms, I would most certainly say that you got the best end of that deal. The old Marshalls are quite nice as well but the 900's are $400+ all day long. Still great cabs but readily available.

Oh, regarding the cloth. It does not look like painted basketweave to me. I think it is their origial black. I've been looking for some but to date no one has identified an exact match to it. If anyone knows where I could get a couple yards that would be cool.
