I know a few of you have turned extra bedrooms or basements into studios, so I thought I'd throw this out there:
Does anyone have any experience with eggshell and pyramid foam and which might be better? How about Owens 703 fiberglass versus the Roxul fire batt stuff?
I am considering undertaking two separate projects: (1) an iso cab that can stand up to and effectively muzzle a wide open Hiwatt, and (2) "soundproofing" our control room.
(1) is all about deadening the sound as much as possible. Our neighbors are tres cool and don't ever complain about our volume, but we'd still like to be able to go past 7 every now and then. My current cab design is 3/4" plywood with a 2-3" Owens 703 lining and 1.5-2" pyramid foam interior. I would like to go with 1" MDF but it is far too expensive to do three cabs with (one for each amp). It would cut down significantly on the costs if eggshell would work just as well as pyramid here.
(2) is all about cutting down on standing waves and reflections off walls/corners. I know pyramid foam is far better for this on the back wall, but it would also save me a ton of bucks if I could just use eggshell on the other three walls and baffle the corners. Thoughts?
Thanks fellas!
