Help...Fane 15" Model 15349 ?

Post by triaxe »

Hello Spezialist!I need your help

i joint yesterday in your vintageHiwattconvention, because i`m bought for very small money a 15" Fane Speaker! On the Speaker only sign "15349" and 28/74 and "8 Ohm". My questions the members here please:

- is this also a speaker i can use for a guitarbox? I plan him for a Guitarloudspeakerbox for home,
- any intrested history? My last Fane Speakers are in a Marshall 4X12" Box in 1970...wonderfull Sound - poor to sell this unfortune.

Sorry my bad english - rare write outside Germany...;-)

Thank you very much for your answers!

Willkommen in unserem Haus :) !

Dr.Hiwatt and Zells have more experience with 15" Fanes and I would expect them to respond soon.

What I can say for certain is that yours was produced in the 28th week of 1974. While it would be perfectly safe to use this speaker for guitar (provided your amp does not produce more than 50 watts or so), it may not produce enough high frequencies and may seem a bit sluggish in response to fast playing.

I have used both 12" speakers designed for bass and 15" mid-range speakers for guitar, with good results. The only way to know for sure if this Fane is a good match with your playing style is to try it. Please let us know how it works out.

Can you show us any photographs of the speaker?

Fane built speakers for many customers and many applications (organs, PA systems, various instrument speaker cabs). If there's no Hiwatt label, then it probably was not built for a Hiwatt cab. However, labels can be torn off, so who knows.

Like Dave said, 28/74 is almost certainly the date code, so we know when it was manufactured.

Wow, I wish. Hopefully....one day. :D I think Dr.H has at least two 15" Hiwatt Fanes. My only 'experience' with 15" Fanes has been looking for them.
