Did HIWATT cabs originally come with clamps? I would have to fabricate them. But then I wonder if they had the rubber dampening ring the other way round.

Not the rear loaded but the front loaded did
come with clamps , you can see that the clamps
stamped the plywood on your cab,take a look at Dave's 1981 cab,
It would be great if you could make some
and avoid drilling more holes.
If when tightened ,...... the clamp hits the speaker ring metal
too much instead of being buffered by the speaker
fiam ring , you could maybe slide a small piece of
rubber between the clamp and speaker ring .

But the best thing would be to wait till a real
Hiwatt Pro give's his input on what should be done
cause I might be totaly wrong !

Yes, as Louis said, the front-loaded cabinets used clamps. They're fairly standard parts, usually included with grill kits:

All right. I've finally wired it all up and did a test ride w. a 50 W Plexi head in my flat. It's sunday today so I didn't drive it to max, just at 4 or 5 Ha ha. What I haven't begun yet is installing the new Marshall style handles as my order is still on its' way. I was surprised to hear the cab being that airy and almost like a Fender open cab. Super Reverb amp. kind of tone. I strongly assume that this is due to the open handle cut outs and possibly because the 4 round holes in the front panel might add too. I liked the overall tonal timbre with its' bell like tone. I didn't feel that the speakers were dull nor ice picky. Just right for me I think. We compared it to his stand by Marshall cab with greenbacks. To my ears the Marshall cabs sounded a bit stiff and with more kick in the bass response, more closed if that can be used to describe it. If I had to choose one of them 3 cabs, 2 marshall and my HIWATT, there would be no doubt I would certainly go w. the HIWATT. It had this well broken in feel w. nice chimy bell like tones. Tipping my fingers on the speaker cone sounded like a thin sensitive kind of cone, almost similar to my Celestion Blues. My neighbour an ols time amp and speaker buff thought that these Fane speakers were bass cab speakers as they appear having no ribs in the cone. What do you guys thinx?
