Wow a 30w head and 1x12 cab. Now that's tempting! All I can say is that I am so over the top happy with the 2x12 cab that I can't thank you guys enough. Just "it", you know?

:) :D :) :D

Glad to hear it!

I love my HI-TONE 2x12 cab, but am itching to try the new 1x12 under my SA112 (running both internal speaker and external cab).

Hi,

anyone know the reason why hi-tone cabs can't be shiped to germany? The 2x12 seems to be pefect partner to my DR504.

Best regards

Jürgen

Hi Jurgen,

they can be shipped to Germany.
our webstore has very limited shipping options, for us to offer free shipping to the USA, we have to block all other countries.
Weird, but it is the web companies program that we have to work with.

We ask all international customers to email us for shipping rates.

email me with your address and I will get an estimate for you.

Hi Clayton,

it seems as the bassport of the 4x12 and 2x12 are same sized. Does it work well anyway?

Best regards

Jürgen

Pardon my jumping in, but it's important to note that the slot at the bottom rear of the cabinets is a vent, NOT a tuned port.

As such, the same size vent works well for both the 4x12 and 2x12 cabs.

What is the difference between a vent and a port?
I can find links on the web about vent tuning and port tuning. So whether this slot is a vent or a port, is there any differences in the frequency response of these Hitone cabs, compared to the same cab without this slot? Dr Hiwatt, have you experienced something about that?

Dave, are you saying that there is no calculation in the dimension of the slot? It is only there for a cosmetic reason and historical matching?

I am asking these questions because years ago, I've made my own 2x12 cab to match my DR504, with a vent. I "calculated" the vent with the simple application of the rule of three, regarding the volume of my 2x12 compared to an original 4121.
And I don't know whether it is because of this not-so-scientifically-calculated vent or if it is only a psycho-acoustic effect , but the sound of this cab is not so pleasing to my ears, as if there are some unmusical frequencies...

We'll likely never know if the slot area was calculated, but I doubt it. This was a much more difficult task back then, before hand calculators and Thiele-Small parameters had been invented. It's not as if 4x12 guitar cabs need to be tuned for more bass. :-) I suspect they were put there so the cab could 'breathe' better when the All Purpose amps were used for bass or organ, to help prevent excessive cabinet vibration.

OK, I understand the purpose of the slot. Thanks Mark! :)
As long as the vent doesn't affect the sound of the HT2121...

I'll cut a new rear panel without the slot for my homemade cab, and test it to see if it sounds better.

So if the early slot was not calculated, it still has an influence to the sound. I've just take two of my cast Fanes into a closed VOX supertwin cabinet and it sounds boxy, kind of meantone. Not as woody and open as the original 4x12. A reason could be the volume of the VOX cabient (about 90l) or the missing slot, maybe both.
