biacrown era black cast fanes?

Post by KyWATT »

Hey everyone,
Great forum here!!! Having a blast findng out info on these amazing amps.
I have a biacrown front loaded can with fanes. They're black cast fanes but
I couldn't find any numbers on them due to the wiring being too short and not wanting to disrupt the original solder.
Does any one have any info on the model of these speakers? How are they preceived in comparison to crescendo's or perhaps purple labeled?
Thanks In advance for the info.

Hi Kyle,

Welcome to the Vintage Hiwatt Convention forum!

If you spin the nut off the jack on the back of the cab, you'll have more cable to work with. It'd be good to have the model number (and date codes) as Biacrown was using up old inventory in those days. Hard to say for sure what's actually in your cab.

I've got a front loaded Hylight Hiwatt cab with 3 all black 122142 Fanes and one silver one. They are stamped steel, though, not cast. As you can see from the photo, they originally had the black plastic magnet covers. Also note the different code stamping methods. My guess would be that your cab would have similar speakers but, again, we'd need the codes to verify.

Thanks Dave. I feel silly that I never thought of taking off the nut on the back...nevertheless, it worked great :)

So, the numbers on the back of the speaker are 33483 and 125593. I have found another thread where someone posted identical pictures of my cab and speaker, but still really no info on these...if there even is any.

As far as sound quality goes, they sound great for clean tones. Very tight and deep bass responce, sweet mids, and shimmery high end.
Although, it doesn't seem to like my pushed Dr103 as much as I would like. They just don't seem to appreciated the punishment :)

Fane date codes got kinda strange, with extra digits, in that era. I'm guessing mid 1983 for the production (based on the 33483 code). I have not seen that model number before. Not sure how it compares with the more known Hiwatt Fane models.

Can you post some pics of the front & back of the speakers (or have you put everything back already)?

I did take some pictures of the speaker before I put it back together but in searching the forum, I found another thread that another person posted lots of pictures of an identical cabinet with identical speakers. The only differences were the date codes.

I found it by typing 125593 into the search bar but this is the subject name, if you want to look at these.
Anyone knows more about 125593 Black Cast aluminum Fanes??

I can also post some pictures when I get home from work if you still want me to.

Thanks for the help... I know I couldn't be In better hands.

Good thing the Search feature works, 'cause my memory sure drew a blank ;) . No need for additional pics.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about those particular models.
