its a bit more bright, slightly scooped and possibly "raw" than the "DG"for lack of better terms.
The DG is a bit more polished sounding.
I hope to get them side by side later this week and then make better comparisons.
Maybe even a side by side comparison with the "JP" , "DG" and CP something simple and straight in.
Sounds pretty good, but IMO lacks a little punch compared to classic Who tones. But I doubt that's the amp, as I built one exactly like it, based on Dr Hiwatt's amp, and it sounds incredible.
What are Mark's settings for that clip? The bass sounds a little mushy - what I've found to sound best (and what Townshend used) was to set the bass quite low, maximum 1/3 up, and treble somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 up. Channel 1 volume maxed, and master to taste. With the guitar straight in this can sound a little piercing, but if you use two coiled cords with a pedal in between (again, like Townshend with his Superfuzz) it sounds just perfect!
