whos had this happen to them?
i know there not fanes but i just had to post this as a reminder to people who buy speakers off the internet, to remember to get the seller to pack them properly!
the idiot who packed these shud not be allowed across the rd without being accompanied by an adult!
i am well annoyed! imagine my horror when i opened the box, which at 1st glance i thought ah at least hes's put them in a proper box, little did i know.
so opened the box pulled out 1st speaker and went oh no. my heart sank, from all excited at having scored a pair of '71 pre rola greenbacks with 1 screw driver hole and a little tear in the other cone for 30quid, to horror within a few moments.
he'd packed them with those goddam inflatable air cushion things! 1 speaker face down (with 3 air cushions into cone, to help pad it, i bet he thought, f*****g idiot) then a layer of more air cushions then speaker face down ontop of that!!!!!!!! then more of the beloved idiots f******g air cushions! the cones on both are completely ripped through.
then i thought to myself, balls i forgot to ask him if he had ever sent speakers in the post before!!!!
i am usually so careful, but sometimes u forget, now i have a piece of tape ontop of me laptop which reads 'dont forget to ask seller if he is a f*****g idiot!
i remember reading a couple of other posts about this very thing, and i'm sure dave n the doc will chime in as its happened to them and a few others.
anyway i'm starting to calm down now as the jack is starting to take effect! but let this be a lesson to all of u. i'm just gutted that a pretty good pair of old speakers that i could of fixed up no probs has bit the dust! i will have another look at them tomorrow but they may well be past it.
so this has led me to think......
lets start a thread on whos had a bad experience with a seller being a f*****g idiot with the packing and/or the post man/delivery boy/courier trashing the fantastic bit of vintage kit that u could of been playing to impress the ladies at the next gig?
please post stories & pics, lets see the carnage!

Re: whos had this happen to them?
I had the exact same thing happen with a pair of very rare Cerwin Vega ER123 speakers. Large bubble wrap/inflated bags, and speakers tussling about in way too large boxes. They were all FUBAR as you can expect.
A few years later I bought an empty '67 slant 4x12 Marshall from the same guy (unknowingly). I decided to go through with it after all assuming he'd learnt a lesson. The cab arrived with the back panel not attached as he couldn't make it fit and couldn't understand why...the center post of the cab was poking out at an angle and past the rear edge...because he'd put the baffle in upside-down!!! Some people just have zero understanding of physics and spatial relations. Wouldn't surprise me if this was the same guy. His initials wouldn't by any chance be A.W.?

oops typing error.
2 quads, 8 total.
over $3000 down the drain.
When I finally did get some Crescendos, I discovered that they aren't worth the hype.

Re: whos had this happen to them?
I've not suffered to the same extent as the Crescendo-chasing Dr.Hiwatt , but did have some numbnuts send me these:
Had they not been obvious recones (contrary to their auction description), I may have had a struggle returning these for credit. Still, to this day, I shudder when I see packing peanuts .

Packing peanuts have their place.
It is NOT as the sole inertia-mitigating means for fragile, heavy items such as these!
Old Fanes do not take kindly to bouncing around inside cardboard boxes. You need some rigid styrofoam or the like to keep them in place, or at least shield them from hard impacts.
I've been fortunate - only one cracked plastic magnet cover (due to said peanuts).

Re: whos had this happen to them?
his name is Andrew Meyrick, so nearly, could be the same bloke?Wouldn't surprise me if this was the same guy. His initials wouldn't by any chance be A.W.?
so there u go any1 buy anything off this retard who continues to sell stuff? but essentially destroys everything he touches!
this is his ebay id meyrick1972
steer clear!
i reckon the 1972 is the yr he was born so he's pretty much the same age as me. so does he just have no commen sence whasoever or does he just not care?
& he has managed to stack up 357 stars so dont know how he's managed that, clearly not on speakers!

Re: whos had this happen to them?
I bought a nice used Celestion G12T-75 off ebay. they shipped it ups in an original Celestion box. i wasnt home so the driver threw it over a 6 foot high fence gate. the reson i know he threw it is because it was about 10 feet from the gate. the end of the box was busted open and the frame was bend bad. fortunately ups took care of it and i got a nice new speaker. btw "never" use "peanuts" or those other little styrofome things. as the truck rolls down the highway the movement acts like a sifter and those peanuts allow the item to sink to the bottom of the box. use wadded up newspaper or blocks/sheets of styrofoam or my favorite > large bubble wrap.
