Hey guys,
I am thinking about selling my DR103 (previous topic : New member greetz and needs advice on a '71 DR103) , and i know many of you will say im crazy...
But as much as i love the sound of this head, im also realising that it is a very very loud amp.
Now im not the kinda guy that likes cranking amps, for me Hiwatt is not made to crank... it was to be a solid base for my pedals...but still im doubting if i will be able to use it to its full potential....
It's not just the loudness of the amp, its portabillity...
I always wanted a 4x12 cab, and i think with a DR103 you cant cut it with a 1x12 cab...
In the beginning i thought to myself : i will carry that 4x12 everytime with a smile because ill have "the" sound...
But after a few times of dragging it with me to rehearsals....im tired of dragging anything...(im not the one to leave his expensive gear somewhere in a rehearsal room, so i take it home everytime)
So im actually after a portable 1x12 combo amp, for home use and rehearsals....
Now i know what most of you are thinking : "buy a small 1x12 combo and keep the DR103 at home", but then ill never be able to use it properly...it will just be standing there as a piece of furniture...but that's not my intention.
I mean, im not David Gilmour standing infront of 20000 people in a big ass arena...
Im usually at home in a small room or at rehearsals in another small room, or at a small gig
So everywhere i go...its gonna be small places....
To keep a long story short... im considering selling my Hiwatt because of this...at the moment there is a custom 50 1x12 combo from the 80's for sale in my country, maybe this is more for me...
I could sell it on the market here in my country, but i know this is the place for Hiwatt lovers who have respect for their Hiwatts, so if im going to sell this amp, i want it to be taking care of....
Anyone who is interested, let me know, i live in Belgium....
I don't have a clue what shipping is going to cost for something this big...
About pricing...this is difficult because i paid 2045$ for it (overpaid? i dont know,i had to have it, although ive seen later DR103's on ebay or somewhere else for way more than 2000$)
And i don't want to make much loss either, because i only had it for a few months now...
And im not putting it on Ebay for 4000$ either, it just want a good price for a good amp...
Make me an offer...
This DR103 is from January 1971, original except for minor things like a bias adjustment, replaced resistors,...
Go to my previous topic (Hylight amps - New member greetz and needs advice on a 71 dr103) for all the pictures...(and the advice from the experts...)
If i cant sell it to anyone from this forum, because of pricing (you guys in the usa will have to pay for shipping etc, maybe it will get too expensive ?...) i will have to sell it in my country, but ill give it a try here...
Greetings

Too bad we're so far apart.
I've got a 1980 Hylight Hiwatt Custom 50 1 x 12 combo (SA112) I'd work a trade with you. But, I fear shipping costs would be very expensive .

Call me crazy but I'm interested! How close is Fryburg, Germany to you? I have friends there and a visit is long overdue...

Re: 1971 HIWATT DR103
i was going to suggest getting a hiwatt combo. my FL112 (100 watt 1x12) is basically as loud as 4x12. it's heavy as hell--but much easier than head and 4x12 cab.
