pedals!

I think we need a separate section for outboard gear...
So, today I visited a few GCs to pick up a 1/2 size acoustic for my nephew
(found a cool little Yamaha - sounds so good that I want one for myself to play in the car while waiting for the ferry... but I digress. )
Anyway, I also wanted to try out one of the the MXR/CAE Bradshaw boost/od pedals (for possible Christmas wish-listing
), but of course nobody had one. I did demo an MXR 10-band eq as a clean boost (didn't like it - not very transparent, muddied things up) and a BBE Boosta Grande (liked it, very transparent). My ears are still ringing from diming
(unattenuated) the '103 in that little sound-proof amp room.
On the way home I decided to stop and just say hi to the owner of the local music store here in B-town... he didn't have much in the way of clean boost pedals, but I did get to try a
Liquid Sound Jekyll & Hyde - wow, that's a great-sounding overdrive! I demoed it into the '103 through a Peavey 4x12 with Sheffields, normal channel dimed, master volume around 2. And
oh my! It sounded
huge... transparent, didn't mask the guitar or the HIWATT sound, it just sounded like the master was wound all the way up. And it cleaned up nicely with just the guitar volume. Very versatile, many ways to dial it in.
So I think I had epiphany... Now I know what you guys mean when you talk about HIWATTS and their pedal-friendliness.
Anyway, has anyone else tried the Liquid Sound? Any other overdrive/boost pedals that you'd recommend?

HIWATTs are incredible platforms for effects pedals, that is why some of the guys at the conventions go nuts over different pedals. The convention is a great place to try out pedals that other guys think are great.

Up to you, El Capitan! Say the word and it'll be there.

I kinda like "Standby" for all that stuff

So, should I modify the description to include pedals, etc.?

I'm trying to find the ULTIMATE overdrive pedal for me, but there are so many to choose from. I don't want to waste anymore cash on pedals I don't like enough to use. I'll check that Liquid Sound Jekyll & Hyde pedal out.

At the convention, I liked that "Fat-whatever" pedal the best. Haven't tracked down the going rate on those yet.

Well there you go... the Liquid Sound says "Ultimate Overdrive" right on the front!
Apparently the overdrive channel is a clone of a TS808, with the addition of a switchable bass boost. The other channel - so I've heard - is more of a DS-1 type sound. Whatever it is, that overdrive channel sounds awesome with the drive set low, bass boost on, and the volume cranked.

I've been using a Keeley modded old Tubescreamer into an old Rat for two stage distortion---- the Tubescreamer is midrangey and the Rat has a scooped sound--- either one by themselves works well but together they give a full range blast that is impressive, with careful attention to level settings on the pedals--- not that much different in concept from the J&H pedal.
I've been running the Dist stage into different time based effects for more color--- works well for cleans too--- Holy Grail reverb, old Boss Chorus, Maxon analog delay, Boss DD-5 dig delay---- usually only one of these hooked up at a time----- i did use the Boss Chorus into the Holy Grail one nite and kept playing Pink Floyd-type stuff--- it was working...................gldtp99

...and today I just
had to treat myself to a little pre-Christmas gift.
After a little tweaking and some A/B comparisons I decided my loadbox/reamp rig isn't quite cutting it anymore.
This Jekyll & Hyde pedal (TS808 channel, drive @ zero, volume 6-10, bass boost on) really kicks it up a few notches, and it doesn't color the tone. The only thing missing is some of the sustain and fatness on clean tones that you only get by cranking the master a bit more. So... I think I'll try a combination of the J&H boost plus an attenuator (Weber MASS?) to see if that gives me the best of both worlds.
Now, I just need a DejaVibe for those times when only some Trower-tone will do...

I brought the Fulltone Fat-Boost. They stopped making it, and replaced it with the Fat-Boost 2. If the new one sounds better, then it must be pretty awesome. Either that or they know us guitarists are never satisfied and will buy the new one too.

the fatboost is pretty nice. there's got to be some floating around ebay or TGP if you don't feel like getting a new fatboostII.
i've got an EHx stereo memory man w/hazarai on the way. looks pretty dohp. here are some cool demonstration vids:

seems like might be able to do alot of the stuff that i love about my digitech pds delays. and then some.

Looks like a cool pedal. I've been thinking about getting a looper, and there's one in that pedal--along with everything else! I did get a pretty wild pedal this week that reminds me of you, Ryan--the Fender Blender. Musician's Friend had/has them for $76.
