Early Hiwatt 100 watt head with sheet metal badge

Post by Gery Hatrix »

I purchased a used 100 watt head in 1972 that had a sheet metal Logo plate where the usual engraved laminated black/white plastic badges are located. Does anyone know anything about these amps with the sheet metal badge?

Hi, Welcome to the Vintage HIWATT Forum!

The chrome badged HIWATTs were made in 1968 and early 1969. They are my Favorites! But i love them all!

And how is the sound of the amp? I always seem to like more the sound of late 60s/early 70s Hiwatts from the old records than the later ones. The earlier ones seem to be more musical and less bright to me.

It's been a while since I was here with my sheet metal badge question! Sadly, I sold that head in 1972 after buying a complete and spotless Marshall 100watt Super lead full stack (the whole thing with new covers for $725.00). I couldn't justify having both heads and had no speaker cabs before this so I never got a real chance to hear the Hiwatt with a good speaker cab.
I should have kept it and made 2 half stacks!!! My parents would have really loved me.
