Re: Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue 100 Watt

Dear all, Following your advice I decided to check out the Eminence Tonkerlite speakers. In parallel I ordered a couple of Tayden Retro 55 speakers. Last night I got time to get them installed and made a couple of sound checks and comparisons. First of all I must admit that the Tonkerlite is a good ...

Re: Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue 100 Watt

To order and ship a DR-F loaded Hitone cab to Germany is too expensive - so it is not making sense for me. Last night, once again I played the Fane Medusa speaker ...and once again there is this huge difference in sound in comparison to my vintage Fanes; I really don't like them. Tonkerlites are at ...

Re: Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue 100 Watt

The Fane Medusa I got, was two years old and was used in a 2x12 cabinet which was powered by a Hiwatt DR 504 twice a week for about 2-3 hours at rehearsal.

Re: Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue 100 Watt

That might be the case that I am still disappointed then. At least I am quite sure that the Weber Thames should sound (at least) ok - Björn from gilmourish.com got some pretty convincing sounds out of them. I don't have any idea about the Weber FC. Both speakers are extremely expensive in Germany an...

Re: Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue 100 Watt

Yesterday night I got a Fane Medusa 100 watt speaker and I was pretty curious how it will sound in comparison to my vintage Fanes. I removed one of my vintage Fanes from my SA 212 and so I could do a direct comparison. To make a long story short: I was quite disappointed. The Fane Medusa is not a ba...

Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue 100 Watt

Weber FC vs Weber Thames vs Fane Medusa Reissue Dear all, Still I am looking for some speakers for two of my three Vintage Hiwatt SA 212 Combos. In one of the combos there are still installed the original Vintage purple Fanes and I am still not totally happy with them. Playing clean sounds is fantas...

Re: Speaker recommendation for Hiwatt SA212 and additional 2

Hi, Dave, Thanks for the pictures! I have modified both of my SA212 combos and have installed a speaker mount on the unused hole beside the slave out. So now I can connect either the internal speakers or an external cab to the corresponding output jacks (correct impedance can be chosen). Of course w...

Re: Identification of old Fane speaker from Hiwatt SA 212

Phil and Dave, In the meantime I got one of my old speakers repaired and had the opportunity meanwhile to do a sound check. They do sound very, very good and I will keep them in my SA212. As still being crazy about Hiwatt, I bought my fourth vintage Hiwatt last week - it is a SA 212 from 1976 and it...

Re: Identification of old Fane speaker from Hiwatt SA 212

Dave, I have two of them - unfortunately one of them is broken, but I hope to get it repaired. Maybe this evening I will put them into my Trace Elliot Custom Shop cab and will check how they sound in comparison to Celestion V30. My impression is, that they cannot handle the whole power of a SA212 an...

Re: Identification of old Fane speaker from Hiwatt SA 212

Hi, Dave, I have found these pictures in the WWW. My speakers do look the same. There aren't any codes on them - on one of them I can see 12505; that is all, no stickers, no other codes. There sound is ok, better than Celestion V30 (more treble response, more bass), but I cannot compare them to newe...

Identification of old Fane speaker from Hiwatt SA 212

Dear all, Recently I bought an old Hiwatt SA 212 combo, built in 1979. The combo was equipped with two Fane speakers which are not the original ones as they are 8 ohm versions. I couldn't find any codes or numbers but have found a picture where you can see the same type. Does anybody know what type ...

Re: Speaker recommendation for Hiwatt SA212 and additional 2

Hi, thanks for your replies! I know that I have to buy two 16 Ohm speakers and that they need to be wired in parallel. Currently there are two old Fane speakers installed but each of them is 8 ohm, so they cannot be used in parallel but only in series. Unfortunately one of them is broken and I even ...

Speaker recommendation for Hiwatt SA212 and additional 2x12

Dear all, After I have read all the threads here for quite some time now, I have recently joined this forum and would like to ask a question which drives me crazy meanwhile. A couple of weeks ago I bought a Hiwatt 100 Watt 4-holer, built in 1977 and also a Hiwatt SA 212 Combo, built in 1979. The spe...
