RIP, a truly sad day for my Hiwatt indeed.
Hi everybody. Long time, eh? Sad news to share, indeed. I felt the need to commiserate with the only people on Earth who'd understand my pain. (As an aside, I've been gone so long because I moved - again. And then again after that. And another time. So.) The set of 70s Mullards that have driven my p...

Re: ebay double take...
Didn't you know that the Euro is doing extremely well, especially against the dollar, Dave? Errr, wait, sorry, except the opposite of that. My mistake!OldSchoolDave wrote:Wonder if the guy misplaced a decimal point on the starting bid or if he really thinks someone's going to bite at that price ?.

The beautiful sounds of a Hiwatt.
All right, so, I haven't played through a Hiwatt ('75) for just a tad over two years. I was still a guitar novice when I first bought my Hiwatt back in 2003, and my ear hadn't yet developed enough to pick out the minutiae. I would like to think that in the past seven years my skills have expanded as...

Re: GTX 36 Les Paul Copy
From what I understand they aren't laminate, they're solid. We had one + sold one at the shop I worked at a few years ago and that was everyone's verdict, anyway.

Re: No power. (continued from PP)
Please file this under the "complete and utter dumb@#$" file, would you? Two years later I do the unthinkable - pull the fuse out and shine a flash light into the holder to see if, over the course of thirty+ years, some gunk or dust or crap might have worked its way in-between the fuse and...

Re: No power. (continued from PP)
Hey Mark, I get no reading whatsoever. Absolutely zero, the needle doesn't even flicker. To be sure I measured across HT - works fine. I even pulled the top off the fuse and used one of the leads to push the fuse as far into the holder as it would go and got no reading at all. Reading between the ou...

Re: No power. (continued from PP)
All right, I've finally got around to chasing this ghost. The mains switch now works - or always worked and I was just doing it wrong (likely). Still, regardless, it is on my list to replace. Even so, with mains on the 'on' bulb never lights. Reading the schematic (correctly?) leads me to believe th...

Window plugs
Hey gents, Any of you fellas ever built a window plug for your live/jam/control rooms or home studios? Having the nastiest of times with this paper-thin window in my live room. Only window in the entire bloody house that's not a double paned storm window... and it's massive! (7' x 5') Oy vey. I can ...

Re: WEM Starfinder cab
That's disappointing to read, Mikhail. Weren't you the one who worked out with Ted (RIP) the custom order (magnet size, doping, etc) that he/you felt best mimicked a vintage FANE? I thought it was you - if not, sorry for the mistake. I was really looking forward to trying out those custom Thames, bu...

Re: Show me your pedalboard - VHC edition
I know I've beaten this horse to death but those rack Tube Drivers are absolutely the best. That "bias" knob really makes all the difference (between a 50-and-500lb violin). I haven't bought any new pedals in over a year and a half - since I got my Superfuzz clone (courtesy of one of our o...

Re: Bizarro Ground Issue
Hey, I might be a corksniffer, but I'm not a Fender Forum-using two prong-sportin' luddite! I keed, I keed. No death caps 'round these parts and only grounded plugs, too. I can't imagine having toured in the 60s/70s with the kind of wiring clubs/amps had back then. I guess that's what cocaine'...

Re: Bizarro Ground Issue
Did a bit more digging around. Looks as if it's actually copper wire from receptacles to panel. I had assumed it was aluminum with copper terminus but I was wrong. Tad weird, but I'll take it! I'm not going to bother undertaking any electrical work until we know if this is a house we might one day b...

Another missed convention. Wife and I skedaddled out of Chicago in May. Wish I could have made it at some point.
Hope this year's convention is the best yet!

Re: Presence pot defective
I'll second the "subtle" remark.
I'd also like to add that, should you have treble anywhere in the late afternoon, "on" is the equivalent of getting stabbed in the ears with pins and needles. It's the very definition of shrill. Sounds great with treble at a decent hour though.
