Re: new to the fold...
OK - here she is, an '82 Gibson EDS-1275 in Alpine White: http://home.comcast.net/~going2spain/hi ... S-1275.jpg
It was implied by the seller that it had "Tim Shaw" Gibson pickups, but they don't have any ink stamped numbers on the back. I think they're the standard Gibson 489T/490R humbuckers, and they're too high output and muddy for my taste. They don't clean up until you get down to 2-3 on the volume pot. I'm thinking hand/scatterwound Alnico 3 PAF-types, underwound for the 12-string neck for a little more jangle. Yup, probably Smit's again, Doc. The Alnico 2 set sounds great in the Howard Roberts.
Can't help but play a little Stairway/Xanadu/Suite Madame Blue when you pick this baby up...

Out of curiosity, how top-heavy is that thing? Good thing you're man enough to handle it .

Re: new to the fold...
It's just slightly neck-heavy, but it hangs level on a strap, so it's fairly comfortable. The weight's not too bad, but I'm sure you'd feel it in the shoulders after a long gig.OldSchoolDave wrote:Out of curiosity, how top-heavy is that thing?
Hmmm... so much for taking it easy and flying next year!Dr.HIWATT wrote:Promise me you will bring that to VHC V

Nice! The '09 and newer Historics are extremely fine guitars.
Do you have more Gibsons than HIWATTs?
We may have to change your handle from Mikhailwatt to McGibson..

That is simply gorgeous! The zebra pickups are an especially nice touch.mikhailwatt wrote:2009 '59 Les Paul Standard 50th Anniversary Reissue, in gloss Rustburst.
I might have more Gibsons than Hiwatts but, they're all OLD - so my nickname need not be changed .

Re: new to the fold...
hey mikhail--nice 1275!!
i actually scored one myself a few weeks ago. mines an '06 in cherry. i'm going to put a vibrola on the 6-string. so much fun!
i'm thinking of changing the pu's out eventually as well.
