Fane 122229

Post by foster »

Hi,

I've found a quartet of Fanes 122229 for sale, can anybody tell me the difference between this model compared to the 122231/122142?

Thx

As I recall, 122229 have 17,000 gauss magnets (same as the 122142's) and whizzer cones. Originally intended for PA or Organ use, the extended high end is rarely desirable for guitar.

Can you post pics to confirm or deny the above?

You can always cut the whizzer cones out if you like the speakers. Phil

I wish it were that simple. It isn't.

The voice coils used in the whizzer cone speakers are longer( which means taller) than those used in guitar speakers.
The coils stick up too high to simple cover with a standard dust cap.

That's too bad, I've cut the whizzer cones out of some rola's and they made great guitar speakers. Phil

As I mentioned in PM, those were not particularly valuable models when in original condition - at least not for guitar usage. Finding someone to properly recone them is a challenge in the U.S.. Not sure what options you have available in Italy.

In any case, it appears as though the seller is asking far too much money for those speakers. If they were original 122231's or 122142's, it would be a different story.

regards,
Dave

Thank you Dave, I'll wait to find a quad of 122231/122142's.
