Re: Vintage HIWATT Convention 2010
I'll be there in spirit with my Hiwatt brethren. I know this event will rock! Mr.Cornick's presence at the convention is a real jaw-dropper. I hope you'll be able to record some key moments... For the occasion, this could be retitled: "Back to the Hiwatt Family".http://www.youtube.c...

DR201 Cap Job
I finally decided that changing those 1971 caps might be a good idea. Actually, it was a VERY good idea. Good ole DR201 never sounded as lively. Probably the way she sounded 38 years ago. I'm particularly impressed with the tone section. Is there another amp make out there which even comes close? I ...

Re: KT- 88 in a DR103 or DR 504
I tried JJ and Winged C KT88s in my '72 DR201. They were ok but the best sounding ones to my ears, so far, are the russian Gold Lion reissues. I also have Gold Lion KT66s in my Metro JTM45 and they are heads and shoulders above the rest. I'm still hoping to get original NOS matched sets of GECs to c...

Re: What's your favorite pickup with your Hiwatt
That's a very difficult question to answer as I have yet to find a guitar which doesn't sound great in my vintage Hiwatt. Les Pauls, Sgs, Strats, Teles, Rickenbackers all ring exceptionally fine. I don't have a Gretsch but I bet it would sound good too...

Re: how to check bias
I use a Bias Probe which is basically a power tube adaptor socket with a built-in 1 ohm resistor. Just stick the banana plug in your multimeter and that's it. No mod or soldering around in my vintage Hiwatt, no siree!

Re: Help needed in restoring a 73' SA-212
Now I'd like to restore the amp in it's original condition by rebuilding the wooden casing and installing a pair of good quality Faneish speakers in it. The problem is that I can't find any measurements for the casing. I'd need to know: - The exact measurements of the combo - How thick are the diff...

I forgot to ask about the Sequis attenuator you have on top of your Marshall. Is it called a "Motherload"? How do you like it? How does it compare to a Hotplate?

Very sexy set up!
That black 3 PU guitar is awesome. I've never seen one of those before.

Re: About my '72 DR201!
Well, I asked Larry about this. I tried to get him to tell me what he thought and how to go about it, etc...
His answer was: No!
So I'll worry about all this if some problem should arise in the next 50 years...

Congratulations on your new acquisition, Doc! I understand perfectly why you couldn't do without one such monster. Now all you have to worry about is getting those biceps toned up to haul her around and in and out from her box!!

Re: White knobs/rear panel selectors
Without a detailed examination, it's hard to be 100% sure, but I'd say from this pic alone that things look cool. The experienced collectors will probably chime in. But even if they aren't stock, those white selectors look sexy anyway. It's the first time I see those in white and they match the whit...
